Giddens Summer Camp Counselor

The program centers on joyful, rigorous, and culturally responsive learning experiences that nurture the academic growth, social‑emotional development, and curiosity of elementary students. We are actively seeking dedicated, engaged, and culturally competent educators from diverse backgrounds who are excited to support students through hands-on, project‑based summer learning.</p> <h3>Program Dates</h3> <ul><li>Orientation: June 17th, 2026 (Time TBD)</li><li>Summer Blast Camp: June 22nd, 2026 - August 14th, 2026</li><li>Camp Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM</li><li>K-5 Position Hours: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM</li><li>Grade Levels: Elementary (Preschool–5th Grade)</li></ul> <h3>Key Responsibilities</h3> <ul><li>Summer Blast Camp Counselors are responsible for creating and facilitating highly engaging, project‑based learning experiences while maintaining a positive, safe, and inclusive environment. Staff members are expected to uphold the values and goals of Giddens School, including professionalism, preparedness, reliability, and collaboration.</li><li>Instruction & Engagement</li><li>Implement daily, highly engaging projects and activities aligned with the weekly theme.</li><li>Adapt lessons and activities to meet the developmental and learning needs of students within assigned age groups.</li><li>Integrate academic skill development (including literacy and numeracy) into hands-on activities where appropriate.</li><li>Foster curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and a love of learning.</li><li>Classroom Environment & Student Support</li><li>Create a responsive, inclusive, and culturally affirming learning environment.</li><li>Support students’ positive social‑emotional development and relationship‑building.</li><li>Maintain clear expectations and routines that promote safety and belonging.</li><li>Prioritize student safety and well‑being at all times</li><li>Follow all school and program health, safety, and supervision protocols.</li></ul> <h3>Professional Responsibilities</h3> <ul><li>Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, families, and program staff.</li><li>Collaborate with co‑teachers, program leaders, and support staff.</li><li>Complete required documentation, attendance, and paperwork accurately and on time.</li><li>Demonstrate punctuality, preparedness, and consistent attendance.</li></ul> <p>This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties.</p> <h3>Employment Requirements and Qualifications</h3> <h3>Required by date of hire</h3> <ul><li>Ability to pass a background check.</li><li>Current TB test result.</li></ul> <h3>Requirements</h3> <ul><li>Experience working with elementary‑age children (professional or equivalent relevant experience).</li><li>Ability to plan and facilitate lessons or activities, or a demonstrated willingness to learn.</li><li>Strong classroom management skills or openness to coaching and growth.</li><li>Genuine enthusiasm for teaching, learning, exploring, and playing with children.</li><li>Participate in training sessions as required.</li></ul> <h3>Preferred</h3> <ul><li>Experience with project‑based learning or enrichment programming.</li><li>Training in culturally responsive teaching practices.</li><li>MERIT/STARS training (30‑hour preferred).</li><li>Current First Aid/CPR, BBP, and HIV training certifications.</li></ul> <h3>Compensation</h3> <p>This is a seasonal position for the duration of the eight week Summer BLAST program. Employees during the Summer BLAST program are expected to work the hours determined based on the role. Salary is Seattle Minimum wage based on age.
